We have done enough laundry today to clothe a small, naked
nation, provided that they wish to be draped in towels and white t-shirts. Husband
and I are agog at how many loads of wash we have done (and are still doing)
today. It is amazing how much of life gets put on the backburner when work
consumes your every moment.
I don’t like that very much, either. If I did something that I LOVED doing, perhaps I could more easily surrender precious “me time,” but the fact is that I don’t feel that way about my job. Parts of it are great, sure, but the demands on my time sometimes outweigh the benefits.
And I can’t even get started on how much D’s life is concentrated on his work- you wouldn’t believe me anyway. The difference is that he truly, deeply adores what he does for a living, and he is so good at it that he sometimes doesn’t notice when his stress-o-meter is off the chart. When he redlines, we have to step back and spend a weekend focusing on other facets of life. Like conquering 900 loads of laundry.
The top photo I snapped yesterday whilst we were up at Howard's Knob. I also got a few beautiful shots of Boone from above, but we've all seen those, right? The color of that azalea was too vibrant to not post. The second picture is of some wild roses growing just off our porch. We always forget they're there, because the vine grows up through a rhododendron, and then BAM! hundreds of roses bloom everywhere. Beautiful. We also have the first blooming rhododendron of the season on our hill. This means that the next few weeks will be an explosion of pink and white flowers - it is so breathtaking it almost gives autumn a run for its money in the "mountain scenery" category.
ps- Speaking of scenery, Max ran off today and played with his friend Nixon over the ridgeline all day. When D. went to retrieve him, Nixon's owner said, "It's nice knowing there are other big dogs around because of all these black bears around here."
Yowza! That's news to us. While some sane folks might contemplate gun ownership upon hearing such a thing, I find myself contemplating 300 mm lens ownership.
Currently listening to: The birds singing out in the woods. They sing the loudest in the early morning and right before sunset. I must get some birdseed out so that I can get pictures of them.

Tamland: [opposing women in the newsroom] I read somewhere their
periods attract bears. Bears can smell the menstruation.
I'm curious Leila. If you could have the perfect job, what would it be? Sounds like a subject for the blog!
